Application Description
DOT’S HOME is a single-player, 2D narrative-driven video game that immerses players in the life of a young Black woman returning to her late grandmother’s cherished home in Detroit. As she explores the house, she unlocks the ability to travel through time, reliving pivotal moments in her family's history—moments where decisions around race, place, and identity shaped their future.
As an interactive storytelling experience, DOT’S HOME invites players to step into the shoes of generations past. Faced with real historical challenges such as redlining, urban renewal, and gentrification, players must make difficult choices about where to live, whom to trust, and how to protect their family's future. Through these immersive scenarios, the game prompts reflection on a powerful question: How did your family end up where they are today—and how much choice did they really have in that journey?
Developed by the Rise-Home Stories project, DOT’S HOME is the result of a multi-year collaboration between award-winning storytellers and housing justice advocates. This creative partnership reimagines the past, present, and future of our communities by transforming the way we tell—and experience—our shared stories.
