Alien: Earth Release Date and Plot Details Unveiled

Alien: Earth Series Debuts August 12 with Double Episode Premiere

Mark your calendars - Alien: Earth makes its highly anticipated debut with two premiere episodes on August 12, airing at 8pm ET on Hulu in the U.S. and simultaneously on FX/Disney+ internationally at 8pm PT/ET. The eight-episode season will continue with weekly releases every Tuesday.

A New Chapter in the Alien Saga

Set in the year 2120 (positioned chronologically after Prometheus but before the original Alien), Noah Hawley's series follows the crew of the doomed USCSS Maginot after their crash landing on Earth. Protagonist Wendy (Sydney Chandler) leads a makeshift team of soldiers as they uncover a terrifying planetary threat that could change everything.

For timeline context, the recently announced film Alien: Romulus bridges the gap between the first two movies, while this series explores new territory in the franchise's expanding universe.

Corporate Rule and Technological Evolution

The story unfolds in an Earth dominated by five mega-corporations: the infamous Weyland-Yutani alongside Prodigy, Lynch, Dynamic, and Threshold. This dystopian society sees humans coexisting with cyborgs and synthetics - until Prodigy makes a breakthrough with hybrid technology. Wendy represents the first successful hybrid prototype, continuing the franchise's exploration of artificial life and immortality.

After a catastrophic collision between Weyland-Yutani and Prodigy forces, Wendy and her fellow hybrids encounter nightmarish creatures that surpass all expectations of terror. Executive producer Noah Hawley has teased five distinct xenomorph variants in the series.

Star-Studded Ensemble Cast

The series features Emmy-nominee Sydney Chandler (Wendy) alongside:

  • Timothy Olyphant (Kirsh)
  • Alex Lawther (Hermit)
  • Samuel Blenkin (Boy Kavalier)
  • Babou Ceesay (Morrow)
  • Adrian Edmondson (Atom Eins)

Plus notable additions including Essie Davis, David Rysdahl, and rising stars like Kit Young and Erana James.

Production Insights

Hawley deliberately departed from Prometheus lore, opting instead for the "retro-futurism" that defined the original films. Though consulting with Ridley Scott, he chose to forge new narrative ground rather than continue the prequel's bioweapon storyline.

This marks an exciting period for the franchise, with Alien: Romulus 2 already in development and rumors of another Predator crossover with Predator: Badlands.
