Does Civilization 7 Have Cross-Play and Cross-Progression (Civ 7)?
Sid Meier's Civilization VII ushers in a new era for the iconic turn-based strategy series, available across major gaming platforms. This article clarifies its cross-play and cross-progression capabilities.
Cross-Play: Civilization VII supports cross-play, but with limitations. Players require an active 2K account linked to their chosen platforms. Cross-play functions seamlessly across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, macOS, and Linux, offering full map and player count options. However, Nintendo Switch players experience restrictions. Due to hardware limitations, the Switch version supports smaller map sizes and fewer players in certain eras (Antiquity and Exploration Ages: up to 4 players; Modern Age: up to 6 players). The Switch version cannot handle standard or larger map sizes. Therefore, if a Switch player joins a cross-play session, these limitations apply to all participants.
Cross-Progression: Civilization VII's cross-progression is simpler. With an active 2K account, progress is synced across all linked platforms. This means players can seamlessly continue their game on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or other platforms without restarting. Unlike Civilization VI, which added this feature later, Civilization VII includes cross-progression from launch. This caters to modern gamers who utilize multiple platforms. Whether playing on a Steam Deck, Switch, PC, or console, your progress is consistently saved.
Civilization VII launches February 11.
