The critically acclaimed series *Shōgun*, which triumphed with 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is set to return for a highly anticipated second season. According to an official press release from FX, Cosmo Jarvis, renowned for his role as pilot John Blackthorn, will reprise his character and step into the role of co-executive producer for Season 2.

Hiroyuki Sanada, who plays lead Lord Yoshii Toranaga, confirmed his return last May following the show's renewal, despite it originally being intended as a limited series. Sanada has also been promoted to executive producer, building on his involvement in the first season. Production for the new season is scheduled to commence in Vancouver, the same location as the original series, starting in January 2026.

FX has described the upcoming season as “a wholly original new chapter to the first season,” which was an adaptation of James Clavell’s novel. The network provided insight into the plot connection between the two seasons, stating:

“In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga fought for his survival as his enemies in the Council of Regents united against him. When a mysterious European ship was found marooned in a nearby village, its English pilot John Blackthorne shared vital strategic secrets with Toranaga that tipped the scales of power in his favor to win a century-defining civil war.

"Part two of Shōgun is set 10 years after the events of the first season and continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined.”

While fans eagerly await the continuation of this exceptional series, there is hope that new episodes will be available by the end of 2026. Until then, anticipation builds as we look forward to seeing how the saga unfolds.
