In the latest installment of Nintendo’s Creator’s Voice series, Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the Final Fantasy Remake series, shared exciting news about Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. This enhanced version of the 2020 PS4 release, which kicked off the remake trilogy of the iconic 1997 PS1 RPG, is set to make its way to the upcoming Switch 2.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, which has already been released for PS5 and PC, brings improved graphics and lighting over its PS4 counterpart, along with the Intermission DLC that introduces fans to the spirited ninja Yuffie in Midgar.

Hamaguchi highlighted the capabilities of the Switch 2, noting that, "With the power of the Switch 2, we can now recreate Midgar with full specs." This advancement in hardware will allow the detailed world of Midgar to be fully realized on Nintendo's new handheld platform. He further emphasized the appeal of portability, stating, "Being able to play this game on the Switch 2 in handheld mode means you can play it on the train while commuting to work." This feature will not only make the game more accessible but also facilitate discussions and sharing of gameplay experiences among players.

The Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will also introduce GameChat, a feature that allows players to communicate with friends during gameplay and share their screens in real-time. Hamaguchi expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "I’m very excited to see this game playable on a portable system," and expressed his optimism about fostering a strong partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand.

While only Intergrade has been confirmed for the Switch 2 at this point, Hamaguchi hinted at future possibilities, saying, "I hope players are looking forward to the Final Fantasy VII Remake series on Switch 2." This statement suggests that subsequent entries like Rebirth and the final chapter of the trilogy could also be coming to the Switch 2.

It's a full-circle moment for the Final Fantasy series, which began on Nintendo consoles before moving to the PlayStation 1 for Final Fantasy VII in 1997. Now, with the remake series, fans will finally have the chance to experience Final Fantasy VII on Nintendo hardware once again.
