Formovie Episode One Hardware Review: Projection Excellence?

Author : Eric Update : May 20,2025

At Droid Gamers, we receive a wide array of gadgets, but a projector is a fresh addition to our lineup. The Formovie Episode One, with its ability to stream mobile games onto a larger screen, piqued our interest as a promising piece of technology worth exploring.

Designed to cater to those on a budget, the Episode One successfully meets its goal, and more. Despite some minor drawbacks, it offers a compelling package for its price point. Out of the box, you'll find the projector, a remote (batteries not included), a power cable, and a manual. While it may not have the solid heft of more expensive models, its lighter weight at just three pounds enhances its portability, making it easy to take on the go.

For some users, the limited ports might be a concern, with only one USB-A port, one HDMI port, and a single audio jack. However, given the cost, these should suffice for most people's needs.

In terms of performance, the Episode One holds its own. With 150 ISO lumens, it's not the brightest or most powerful laser-based projector on the market. It struggled in direct sunlight during our tests, but excelled in darker environments, as expected. Every movie, TV show, and streamed game we tested displayed clearly.

For optimal image quality, we found that positioning the projector at least 10 feet away from the screen was necessary. The built-in speaker, while functional, produced a tinny sound, so we recommend pairing the Episode One with an external speaker for a better audio experience.

The user interface of the Episode One stands out among budget projectors. Its simplicity and ease of setup make it more user-friendly than some of the pricier models we've encountered.

Overall, the Formovie Episode One is an excellent entry-level projector. It may not excel in any single aspect, but it's a reliable all-rounder that should meet the needs of most casual users.
