GTA 6: Ranking Every Rockstar Game

Author : Elijah Update : Nov 10,2025

The new GTA 6 trailer has arrived, and for those who haven't seen it yet, we've analyzed all the hidden secrets and key details from it. Unfortunately, though, we’ll have to wait until May 26, 2026, to experience Lucia and Jason's story firsthand. In the meantime, why not take a look back at all the incredible Rockstar games we’ve enjoyed over the years and rank them just for fun?

Since its founding in 1998, Rockstar has developed and released more than 30 games, including iconic series like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, and Manhunt. So which of these titles truly stands above the rest? To clarify, you won't see entries like LA Noire or Max Payne 2 here—we're focusing strictly on games developed by Rockstar, not just published by them. I’ve taken a shot at ranking them using one of IGN’s interactive tier lists, based purely on my personal enjoyment over the years. Check out my tier list below:

Red Dead Redemption 2 remains my absolute favorite game of all time, so putting it in the S-tier was an easy choice. It’s joined there—perhaps unsurprisingly—by its predecessor and GTA 5, both pioneers of cinematic open-world design. I also have a soft spot for Max Payne 3 and its balletic bullet-time gameplay, as well as GTA San Andreas, a game I probably played when I was far too young. Meanwhile, sitting at the bottom in the D-tier are titles like Austin Powers: Oh, Behave! and Welcome to My Underground Lair!, games that, let’s be honest, no one in their right mind would want to play today.

Disagree with my picks? Think Vice City outshines GTA 4? Feel free to create your own Rockstar games tier list below and see how your S, A, B, C, and D rankings stack up against the rest of the IGN community.
