HBO Max Reverts to Original Name, Warner Bros. Discovery Reveals

Author : Ryan Update : May 31,2025

Max is reverting to its original name, HBO Max, starting this summer, as announced by Warner Bros. Discovery. This marks a return to the original name just two years after the rebranding to Max. As HBO Max, the platform hosts iconic shows such as Game of Thrones, The White Lotus, The Sopranos, The Last of Us, House of the Dragon, and The Penguin.

According to Warner Bros. Discovery, their streaming business has achieved remarkable financial turnaround, adding nearly $3 billion in profitability within two years and reaching 22 million new subscribers in the last year alone. They anticipate expanding their subscriber base to over 150 million by the end of 2026.

The decision to reintroduce the HBO brand stems from its reputation for delivering high-quality, unique content that consumers value. Amidst an increasingly crowded streaming landscape, the demand is shifting toward premium offerings rather than sheer volume.

David Zaslav, President and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, emphasized the importance of the HBO brand in driving service growth. JB Perrette, President and CEO of Streaming, reiterated their commitment to providing distinct, adult-focused content. Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, stated that the HBO Max name aligns better with their current strategy and promise of delivering exceptional, must-watch content.
