Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, the GPS-based mobile action-RPG, has been canceled — though Kingdom Hearts fans received reassurance as Square Enix confirmed active development continues for Kingdom Hearts 4.

The mobile game would have explored Scala ad Caelum with an original story about battling Heartless, originally scheduled for 2024 release.

In an official statement posted on X/Twitter, Square Enix apologized to fans, explaining the cancellation resulted from concerns about delivering "a service that players would find satisfactory long-term." The company didn't specify development challenges.

"We sincerely apologize to everyone anticipating this release," the statement read. "Despite extensive development efforts, we concluded we couldn't ensure the quality experience players deserve, necessitating this difficult decision."

"We're deeply grateful to beta test participants and regret disappointing our community. While this project concludes, the Kingdom Hearts series continues forward."

The statement concluded by confirming active development on Kingdom Hearts 4, asking fans to "stay tuned for future updates."

This marks the first official Kingdom Hearts 4 update since January's cryptic teaser. Despite its September 2022 cinematic trailer reveal, Square Enix has maintained radio silence — keeping fans eagerly speculating per series tradition.

Series director Tetsuya Nomura previously hinted Kingdom Hearts 4 may begin concluding the franchise's sprawling 22-year narrative across 18 games.
