Marvel Rivals Reverses Controversial Mid-Season Rank Reset

Following significant player backlash, Marvel Rivals has rescinded its planned mid-season rank reset. The developer announced the reversal in Dev Talk 11, a swift response to the negative reaction generated by Dev Talk 10, which detailed a system dropping players four divisions midway through the season.

The initial plan, proposing rank resets every 45 days, proved unpopular with the community. Players voiced concerns about the demotivating effect of frequent rank drops on their progress. Dev Talk 11 clarifies that ranks will now remain unchanged from the first half of the season. However, the end-of-season rank reset, dropping players six divisions, will still occur.

New Heroes and Other Updates Remain

Despite the rank reset reversal, other updates scheduled for February 21, 2025, remain on track. This includes the introduction of two highly anticipated new heroes, Human Torch and The Thing, expanding the roster to 39 characters. The commitment to adding two new playable characters per three-month season remains in effect.

Rewards for players achieving Gold rank and above also remain unchanged. Players reaching Gold will receive an Invisible Woman costume, while Grandmaster and above will receive Crests of Honor. Additional rewards, including another free costume and Crests of Honor (for Grandmaster and above), will be awarded at the end of the season. While balance adjustments were previously mentioned, details are yet to be released.

Community Feedback Drives Change

Marvel Rivals' rapid response to player feedback is noteworthy. The developer acknowledged the community's concerns and implemented the change within hours of the initial announcement. The team emphasized their commitment to community engagement, stating that player feedback is crucial to the game's development and success.
