Milly Alcock: 'High-Up' Advised Acting Coach on House of the Dragon Set
Milly Alcock, known for her portrayal of the young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the acclaimed series House of the Dragon, faced an unexpected challenge early in her tenure on the show. On just her second day of filming, a high-ranking individual on set suggested she needed acting coaching, leaving her "mortified." Alcock shared this experience during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show, humorously reflecting on how the incident made her feel humbled and doubt her abilities, though she was clearly jesting about not being good at her job.
The Australian actress, who has since been nominated for a Critics Choice award, played the daughter and heir of King Viserys I Targaryen as a series regular in Season 1 and made a guest appearance in Season 2. The series, which explores the decline of the Targaryen dynasty, premiered in August 2022, shortly after the conclusion of the original Game of Thrones series. House of the Dragon quickly gained popularity, securing renewals for both Season 2 shortly after its premiere and Season 3 in June 2024, even before the second season began. The show's success was further cemented when it won the Golden Globe for Best Television Series — Drama.
Looking ahead, Alcock is set to expand her repertoire by playing Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl, in the upcoming Superman movie this summer and in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow next year. Emma D’Arcy takes over the role of Rhaenyra Targaryen as she matures into adulthood and eventually ascends to the throne.
While House of the Dragon is confirmed for a third season, an official release date has yet to be announced.
