Netflix Strikes Deal With Beloved Kids Show Sesame Street For New Episodes After HBO Max Partnership Ends

Fans of the iconic children's show *Sesame Street* can breathe a sigh of relief as the beloved series, which has been delighting audiences since 1969, continues its journey into the digital age. Following the conclusion of its longstanding deal with HBO and Max at the end of 2024, *Sesame Street* is set to stream on both Netflix and PBS, ensuring its accessibility to a global audience.

Starting with Season 56, viewers can look forward to new episodes premiering on Netflix worldwide, alongside a comprehensive catalog of past episodes. Additionally, new episodes will be available on their air date through PBS stations and PBS Kids, maintaining the show's longstanding relationship with the network. This new arrangement not only broadens the show's reach but also introduces innovative features. Netflix's growing gaming sector will allow for the development of video games based on *Sesame Street* and the spinoff *Sesame Street Mecha Builders*, enhancing interactive experiences for young viewers.

The announcement, made via *Sesame Street*'s social media channels on May 19, 2025, emphasized the collaborative spirit behind this move. "The support of Netflix, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting serve as a unique public-private partnership to enable *Sesame Street* to continue to help children everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder," stated a post from the Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind the series.

In addition to the new streaming and gaming opportunities, Season 56 will introduce structural changes to the show. Each episode will feature an 11-minute story segment, a format shift inspired by successful character-driven children's series like *Bluey*. However, traditional segments such as *Elmo’s World* and *Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck* will continue to charm audiences, blending innovation with cherished traditions.

*Sesame Street* first aired in November 1969 and became part of the PBS network in the 1970s, quickly establishing itself as a cultural landmark. HBO and Max joined forces with the show in 2015 with a significant $35 million deal for new episodes. Although their partnership concluded at the end of 2024 due to a shift in focus away from children's programming, the *Sesame Street* library will remain available on HBO and Max until 2027, albeit without the production of new content.
