Scarlett Johansson Seeks Credit Removal from Thunderbolts: Claims No Involvement

Scarlett Johansson will always be a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — but it seems unlikely that she'll return to it anytime soon. In fact, she recently took steps to distance herself from one of the studio's latest projects by requesting that her name be removed from Thunderbolts*.

In a recent interview with David Harbour for *Interview Magazine*, Johansson clarified that she had no involvement in the film and wanted her executive producer credit taken off accordingly.

“I asked to have my credit removed because I wasn't involved,” Johansson explained during the conversation. The topic came up when Harbour, who reprised his role as Red Guardian in Thunderbolts*, teased her about not having seen the movie yet. He then pointed out that she was listed as an executive producer, prompting her explanation.

Harbour joked, “You hated the film *that* much?” But Johansson quickly responded, “No, you're just wanting that to be the case.” She also made it clear that she’s proud of the team behind the movie.

According to IMDB, her name is no longer credited as an executive producer on the film, which hit theaters early last month.

Despite stepping away from acting within the MCU, Johansson remains open to creative opportunities behind the scenes. In a recent interview with *Deadline*, she expressed interest in potentially directing an MCU project in the future.

“Even producing *Black Widow* and being a part of the production of that, and the development of the story, and the story between Natasha and Yelena,” she said, “I think there's a way of maintaining the integrity of the idea of human connection, family, disappointment — all of the things that were themes in *[Eleanor the Great]* — and doing it in a giant universe. There are ways of doing that… So, yeah, definitely, it could be. It would be fun.”

The marketing campaign for *Thunderbolts** has been anything but ordinary, including a real-world rebranding of the film to *New Avengers* shortly after its release. Marvel even extended the on-screen conflict between Sam Wilson’s Avengers and the Thunderbolts into promotional content.

The film serves as a lead-in to Phase 6’s kickoff title, *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*, set to debut this July.
