Silksong Rumors Return Fueling Speculation
The Hollow Knight community is abuzz with speculation that Hollow Knight: Silksong will grace the Nintendo Switch 2, fueled by a cryptic Twitter post and a rather delicious-looking cake. Let's dive into the details.
Renewed Hope for Silksong's Arrival
A Twitter Tease and a Piece of Cake
The whirlwind of speculation began with William Pellen, a creator involved with the game, and his intriguing Twitter (now X) activity preceding and during the Switch 2 announcement on January 16, 2025.
On January 15th, Pellen tweeted, "Something big is coming. Keep your eyes peeled tomorrow," a seemingly subtle nod to the impending Switch 2 reveal. The usual Silksong release questions followed, but his subsequent actions added fuel to the fire.
The January 16th Switch 2 announcement included a planned Nintendo Direct on April 2nd, 2025. A keen-eyed fan noticed Pellen had changed his profile picture to a slice of cake. A reverse image search traced the image back to a Bon Appetit article featuring a Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe, published on April 2nd, 2024.
Pellen also commented on the article with "mmmm tasty," prompting a flurry of fan comments connecting the cake to Silksong. One fan even pledged to bake the cake if Silksong news arrived by April 2nd, 2025, while another playfully noted the cake's "silky texture," cleverly linking it to the game and the upcoming Direct.
It's crucial to note that Pellen's connection to the cake comment remains unconfirmed. However, his profile picture change is undeniable, hinting at something – though that "something" might ultimately be nothing.
Silksong's Long-Awaited Debut – Five Years in the Making
Initially announced on February 14th, 2019, Hollow Knight: Silksong was slated for release on Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The game, a sequel to Hollow Knight, follows Hornet's adventures in a kingdom ruled by silk and song.
Following a soundtrack preview in December 2019, composed by Christopher Larkin, Team Cherry went largely silent for over two years.
They resurfaced in February 2022, with Pellen assuring fans of ongoing development and promising updates closer to release. A June 2022 trailer at the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase offered new gameplay footage and confirmed a Game Pass launch.
While initially anticipated for the first half of 2023, Team Cherry's Matthew Griffin confirmed a delay in May 2023, citing the game's expanded scope.
Over five years later, the Hollow Knight fanbase remains dedicated, actively searching for any news. However, information has been scarce since the delay announcement, leaving fans eagerly awaiting further updates.
