Space Marine 2 Devs' April Fool's Joke Sparks Fan Excitement

Author : Emery Update : May 23,2025

April 1st has come and gone, but the gaming community is still buzzing about the clever April Fool's Day prank from the developers of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. Focus Entertainment, the game's publisher, announced a fictitious DLC featuring a new Chaplain class set to be released on April 1.

"In story mode, swap out Titus for The Chaplain and experience the game as a true Codex-compliant Ultramarine," Focus teased, undoubtedly enjoying the playful deception.

The mock DLC promised a new playable character in the story mode, complete with an 'Enhanced Dialogue System.' This would have the Chaplain periodically reminding his peers of their Codex Astartes obligations, saying things like "the Codex Astartes does not support this action," and "I’m telling the Inquisition."

Adding to the humor, the Chaplain was supposed to have a special ability called Discipline, which would report any deviations from the Codex Astartes, granting a 5% discipline bonus but at the cost of a -20% brotherhood bonus.

The jest resonates because, as players of Space Marine 2 know, Chaplain Quintus closely monitors protagonist Titus for any signs of heresy, despite Titus's unwavering loyalty to the Imperium, the Ultramarines, and the Emperor. Throughout the campaign, as Titus fights against the Tyranids and the Thousand Sons, Quintus remains skeptical of Titus's unique qualities, much like an overzealous school prefect.

The Chaplain's role has become a meme within the Space Marine community, which this April Fool's prank cleverly exploited. However, some fans expressed genuine interest in seeing the Chaplain as a playable character in the game, envisioning him not with the humorous skill set but as a dedicated warrior-priest focused on the Emperor's worship.

"This would actually go hard if this was real," commented ResidentDrama9739 on the Space Marine subreddit, sparking enthusiastic discussions about potential gameplay mechanics for the Chaplain.

While the Chaplain DLC was a hoax, Space Marine 2 is indeed set to receive a new class, though details remain under wraps. Speculation suggests it might be the Apothecary, akin to a medic class, or the Librarian, bringing warp-powered abilities into play. The Chaplain's spotlight in the April Fool's gag has fans wondering if he's still in the running.

Despite the early announcement of Space Marine 3's development, Space Marine 2 has a busy year ahead. Patch 7 is slated for mid-April, and the game's roadmap includes the new class, new PvE operations, and additional melee weapons.
