Squad Busters 2.0 Launches on Android Ahead of First Anniversary
Squad Busters is celebrating its first anniversary with a monumental update, version 2.0, set to launch on May 13th. Since its debut in 2024, the game has struggled to capture the audience that Supercell had hoped for. With this update, the developers are aiming to transform the game in hopes of boosting its popularity.
This Isn’t Just a Tweak or Two
Squad Busters 2.0 is more than a minor update; it's a comprehensive overhaul, essentially a reboot. The core mechanics of battles and victory conditions are being revamped entirely.
One of the most significant changes is the introduction of Heroes. Players will now select a Hero to lead their squad into battle. These Heroes, drawn from existing characters, are crucial because if your Hero falls, it's game over for you. This adds a new layer of strategy and excitement to the gameplay.
Combat dynamics are also being transformed. No longer do you need to halt your movement to engage in battle; now, movement and combat are seamlessly integrated. This change promises to make matches more dynamic, aggressive, and chaotic, enhancing the overall experience.
Victory conditions have shifted as well. Instead of needing to eliminate every opponent on the board, the focus is now solely on taking down the enemy Hero. Some players have noted that this feels like a shift towards a Brawl Stars-style gameplay, albeit with additional elements.
Squad Busters 2.0 Is Dumping a Lot of Old Features
To make room for these new changes, several existing game modes such as Doppelgangers, Double Trouble, Epic Overload, Loot Machines, and Hatchling Herder are being removed. Additionally, some old skins and progression systems will be phased out. Supercell plans to compensate players with Hero Points and other in-game items to ease the transition.

The rapid changes are a clear indication of Supercell's efforts to revitalize Squad Busters. As the game's first anniversary approaches on May 29th, the developers are pulling out all the stops to reignite player interest. To celebrate, they're introducing daily piñata events, which will offer chances to unlock a new Hero, Mortis.
You can download Squad Busters 2.0 from the Google Play Store and experience these exciting changes firsthand.
