Steer Cars Using Just Your Eyes in Open Drive, Out in Early Access on Android
Open Drive is not just another racing game; it's a groundbreaking mobile title now available in early access on Android. Developed by SpecialEffect, a charity focused on helping physically disabled gamers enjoy video games, and co-developed with Sun & Moon Studios, this game is a testament to inclusivity in gaming.
What’s the Game About?
Open Drive is designed to be universally accessible, allowing players to choose their preferred method of control—whether it's touch, keyboard and mouse, switch access, or a controller. This inclusivity extends to players who use alternative input methods like eye gaze, making the game a pioneering effort in mobile gaming accessibility. With mobile-specific eye control, players can steer their vehicle simply by looking left or right, a feature that enhances the gaming experience across all four of the game's diverse open worlds: Stunt, Speed, Snow, and Meadow.
The gameplay in Open Drive is incredibly versatile. Players can leisurely drive around collecting orbs or engage in high-octane action, chasing high scores and executing daring jumps with vehicles like the Roadster, Trickster, or Speedster. The game also offers adjustable speeds, ensuring a customizable experience for all players. To see Open Drive in action, check out the early access announcement trailers below.
Open Drive Is Now Out in Early Access
Open Drive smartly auto-detects and adjusts to the user's control method, ensuring a seamless experience. It fully supports Switch Access on Android, along with offering tailored setups for touch controls, mouse, keyboard, and Android-compatible gamepads/controllers. Touch controls come in 'Precise' and 'Classic' modes, allowing players to steer by tapping or directional control with minimal input.
Currently available in early access on Android, Open Drive's eye control feature is not yet fully implemented but is slated for inclusion in the full version expected later this summer. You can download and try the early access version now on the Google Play Store.
