Take-Two CEO Bullish on Nintendo Switch 2
The Nintendo Switch 2 launch is just weeks away, and despite ongoing discussions about pricing, tariffs, game cards, and other uncertainties, one third-party publisher remains confident: Take-Two Interactive.
During today's investor Q&A following their annual earnings report, CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed "strong optimism" about Nintendo's upcoming console when asked about their support strategy. He notably highlighted Nintendo's improved approach to third-party partnerships compared to previous platforms:
"We're releasing four titles simultaneously with the Nintendo Switch 2 launch - more than we've ever launched with any new Nintendo platform before. While third-party publishing on Nintendo systems historically presented challenges, Nintendo has made significant progress addressing these. Our increased commitment reflects our confidence in the platform. We evaluate each platform opportunity individually, prioritizing consumer access while maintaining platform-specific release strategies. This also creates exciting possibilities for our catalog titles."
The confirmed lineup includes Civilization 7 (launching June 5), NBA 2K and WWE 2K series (specific titles/dates TBA), and Borderlands 4 (September 12). While these franchises previously appeared on Switch, Zelnick's comments suggest potential for additional releases - possibly including catalog titles like GTA V, though GTA 6 seems unlikely.
Before today's investor call, we discussed with Zelnick various topics including GTA 6's development progress and the reasons behind its recent delay to 2025.
