Ubisoft Addresses Assassin's Creed Shadows Leak
On February 24, we reported a significant leak concerning Assassin’s Creed Shadows, with numerous individuals streaming the game online a full month before its scheduled release on March 20. Over the weekend, as highlighted by the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, social media posts—now deleted—revealed physical copies of the game being sold before the official street date. Additionally, multiple unauthorized streams of the unreleased title surfaced on platforms like Twitch.
In response to the leak, Ubisoft, the game's developer and publisher, issued a statement on the Assassin's Creed subreddit. They acknowledged that some players had gained early access to Assassin’s Creed Shadows and emphasized that the development team was still working on finalizing the game's quality through patches. Ubisoft expressed their disappointment about the leaks, stating, "Leaks are unfortunate and can diminish the excitement for players." They urged the community to refrain from spoiling the game for others, thanking those who had already taken steps to prevent spoilers from spreading.
Ubisoft concluded their statement with an optimistic note, encouraging fans to "Stay in the shadows, avoid the spoilers, and keep an eye on our channel for more official surprises in the coming weeks!" They reassured everyone that the official release date of March 20 would arrive soon.
These leaks represent another challenge for Ubisoft and the Assassin's Creed franchise. The development team has previously faced backlash for using a historical recreation group's flag without permission and for inaccuracies in Assassin's Creed Shadows' depictions of Japan. The game's release has been postponed multiple times, initially set for November, then moved to February 14, and finally to the current date of March 20. Given Ubisoft's recent struggles with sales and investor backlash, the success of Assassin’s Creed Shadows is crucial for the company's recovery.
