Moshi Monsters Revival via Mind Candy Kickstarter
- Moshi Monsters is making a comeback! Well, in a way.
- Mind Candy's new Kickstarter campaign could revive the classic MMORPG
- This mobile version focuses more on story-driven gameplay while retaining many beloved features
Few names stir up nostalgia among British gamers like Moshi Monsters. There was a time when these charming yet peculiar creatures appeared everywhere—from TV commercials and magazines to home computers. Now, the original developer, Mind Candy, might bring Moshi Monsters back into the spotlight.
The studio recently launched a Kickstarter campaign aiming to revitalize the hit Flash-based MMORPG for modern platforms, especially mobile devices. According to their pitch, this new mobile installment will let players revisit Monstro City after a mysterious asteroid impact devastates it, challenging them to rebuild their home.
You'll step into the role of one of the six original Moshi Monsters, adopting and raising your virtual pet just like in the classic game. Along the way, you'll dive into a fresh, story-rich adventure filled with minigames and nods to the original MMORPG, all while reconstructing the iconic Monstro City.
Monstrous!I often point out how much mobile gaming owes to Flash. Platforms like Newgrounds, Miniclip, and Armor Games introduced countless young players to gaming, and many genres and mechanics born in the Flash era are now staples on mobile.
That said, Moshi Monsters could serve as a test case for whether nostalgia can breathe new life into long-retired titles, no matter how iconic they once were. If you're interested in helping Mind Candy resurrect Moshi Monsters, head over to their Kickstarter page for details—the campaign ends on August 15th.
