Elden Ring Nightreign Achieves 2 Million Sales on Release Day
Elden Ring Nightreign reached 2 million copies sold on its launch day.
“Strong pre-orders and initial sales propelled the game past the remarkable 2 million unit mark,” Bandai Namco stated.
The multiplayer co-op spin-off launched overnight and quickly climbed Steam’s most-played chart, hitting a peak of 313,593 concurrent players.
However, this figure doesn’t capture the full picture, as Microsoft and Sony have not disclosed Xbox or PlayStation player counts. Still, FromSoftware’s announcement of 2 million copies sold highlights the massive scale of Elden Ring Nightreign’s debut.

Elden Ring was a blockbuster, with 30 million copies sold since its 2022 release, but Nightreign is unlikely to replicate that success. For comparison, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion sold 5 million copies in three days in 2024. It remains to be seen if Nightreign’s sales over a similar period will be shared.
Despite its strong player base, Elden Ring Nightreign faces challenges. It holds a ‘mixed’ user review rating on Steam, with criticism focusing on the absence of two-player co-op, lack of voice chat, and a punishing solo experience. Players also struggle to form three-player squads. A patch to improve solo play is slated for next week.
As noted in IGN’s Elden Ring Nightreign review: "Here’s the key point: unless you’re a dedicated Elden Ring fan who thrives on making an already tough game harder, Nightreign’s solo mode isn’t for you. While a single-player option exists, it’s so unbalanced that it’s likely to be tweaked within the first month. This comes from someone who lives for these games."
