Helldivers 2 Main Focus for Long Time, Says Arrowhead Boss

Arrowhead, the developers behind the popular game Helldivers 2, have recently addressed concerns from fans about potentially shifting focus from the game to their next project, known as "Game 6." CEO Shams Jorjani took to the official Helldivers Discord to reassure the community following the game's significant update with the full-scale Illuminate invasion.

Jorjani expressed gratitude for the community's support, stating, “The wonderful thing is that thanks to the amazing support of you FINE people Arrowhead's future is quite bright and we have the freedom to explore some really cool concepts that we couldn't have otherwise. Game 6 (our next project) will happen the way it will happen thanks to you.” However, this statement raised some alarms among fans, fearing that resources might be diverted from Helldivers 2.

Jorjani quickly clarified that Helldivers 2 remains Arrowhead's primary focus, stating, "Nah. It's ALL Helldivers 2 for now. A very, very small team will spin up something later this year and go at it sloowly. Helldivers is our main focus and will be for a loooong time." He also mentioned that the longevity of Helldivers 2 depends on player engagement and the purchase of Super Credits, the game's virtual currency used to buy Premium Warbonds. Jorjani noted a turnaround from last summer, when the future looked uncertain, to a brighter outlook due to strong player support.

In response to a fan's plea to avoid region-locking in future games, Jorjani confirmed that Arrowhead's next project, Game 6, will be entirely self-funded, giving them full control over its distribution. This move suggests that Game 6 will not be a sequel to Helldivers 2 and will not involve Sony or other publishers.

Jorjani also touched on the development process of Game 6, contrasting it with the challenging eight-year development of Helldivers 2. He emphasized the importance of early playtesting and focusing on core elements from the start, saying, "For the most part of the development cycle games plain suck... For our next game we're doing things in a much smarter way and nailing a lot of the core s\*\*t early on (as you should) then make the rest."

The commitment to Helldivers 2's longevity aligns with previous statements from Arrowhead's production director, Alex Bolle, who told IGN that they aim for the game to last "for years and years and years to come." Bolle highlighted the motivation to keep innovating and staying true to the game's essence while adapting new features and systems. He also noted the excitement of working on live games, where creativity can lead to unique adaptations and enhancements.

Recent leaks, including one from PlayStation, suggest that a new playable map, Super Earth, may soon be introduced as the Illuminate reach our home planet, further indicating Arrowhead's ongoing commitment to expanding and enriching Helldivers 2.
